Papillomavirus and skin cancer association:
There has been found an association between the papillomavirus and the onset of skin cancer. Although it is directly associated with cervical cancer in women, there are cases where papillomavirus has led to skin cancer as well.
While the papillomavirus increases the risk of skin cancer, it doubles the steroid treatment that a person is getting as a result. This steroid treatment for a long time contributes to the lowering of the immunity guard in the body. This lowered immunity along with the risks of skin cancer leads to greater chances of skin cancer occurring in the patient. In this way, people suffering from papillomavirus are more at risk of skin cancer.
Usually, the papillomavirus is spread by sexually transmitted diseases but there are so many forms and subtypes of this virus that some of them spread differently and lead to different causes. When papillomavirus is spread via non-sexual disease, it leads to a greater potential of developing skin cancer risk.
Cutaneous human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common form of this virus that is known to be leading to skin cancer in several patients.
When these patients of HPV go out to get their skin exposed to the sun it becomes a double risk for them to be a sufferer of skin cancer because both have a potential contribution to the cause.
Research on this association is currently ongoing, but so far there has been an indirect link found between these two. There is no direct connection between HPV and skin cancer that all patients of HPV will get skin cancer but for now, it is known that they are at a greater risk.
