Randall Darius Jackson is an American record producer, singer, musician and entrepreneur. In 2003, he was diagnosed with diabetes and lost over 100 pounds although before when he was healthy he was a judge on a show called American idol for 12 seasons. During season 2 he weighted 358 pounds and later he got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
His Inspiration to change his life:
His health was not good. During his check-up with his dentist he got to know that his gums does not look good due to high blood sugar or hyperglycemia. A normal blood sugar lies between 70- 99 mg/dl but Jackson’s was over 500 and then he got to know that he has type 2 diabetes.
“It ran in my family, but you always think someone else is going to get it and never you” said Randall. Jackson considered his diagnosis a blessing as well as a curse, he told this in his book called “Body with Soul”.
He considered it a blessing because to him it was a wake-up call and a curse because “It is a curse to be saddled with a disease that is life threatening, that you cannot completely get rid of although you can manage it” said Randall.
His diagnosis inspired him lose weight and bring his health back that led him to gastric bypass surgery, he went through surgery which helped him temporarily causing him to lose 100 pounds but all his weight came back and then Jackson realized that he has to make other changes.
He said, “Went on my own journey to try and discover ‘how do I keep it off? What do I do?” He also said this in the “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” that he suffered emotional eating (that lead to a feeling of emptiness / emotional void and food is considered to be a way to fulfill that void).
“I had a food divorce is what I usually say. I had to let all go and start over” said Jackson. It was hard for him to completely break up with food, when he saw variety of food and seeing people enjoying it but he could not.
Maintain his Diet:
He is trying to live a healthy life, he now has a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables in his house. He does not kill or avoid his cravings but he finds a substitute for that for instance, for his sugar cravings he chooses frozen yogurt or protein shakes. He said, “Never say, ‘I will never have another piece of chocolate’ because it will not happen and as soon as you say never then there is a binge coming”.
His Workout Routine:
Randall’s doctors recommended him to be more active than usual, find activities and so on. Although after he got this inspiration to change his life for betterment so he got himself a treadmill which he keeps next to his bed. He walks on treadmill for 30 – 45 minutes a day. Besides treadmill he prefers yoga, he says that he likes stretching because it made his body feel good.
It is always difficult to try something you never tried before. But sometime life creates some difficult situations for you as a reminder / as a wake-up call. After learning how Randall lost his weight inspired many. If they can do it then why can’t you, it is difficult but not impossible.
